Blue moon blues?

Happy Holi!

The Indian festival of colours at the Full Moon each Spring marks the time when winter crops like wheat are harvested there, bringing all communities together: enemies are to be forgiven, and old disagreements are to be set aside. Don’t we need a good dose of that nowadays?

The Full Moon in Libra early on Thursday morning is the last of five full moons in a row to be at zero degrees. Because zero degrees is the start of a zodiac sign, planets or key astrological points there are usually associated with something new, an initiation, as well as containing the seed of the essence of the sign involved. And this one combines with the astrological new year, the Spring Equinox!

Yet a Full Moon is associated with completions, culminations, or the realisation of something that began long before (if not six months ago, then at least around the earlier New Moon phase). So we’ve had five months of feeling a sense of new beginnings simultaneously seeded within endings, propelling us forward while things are coming to a close all around us.

Pay close attention to what is culminating for you in this cycle, as there will likely be another echo of it at the next Full Moon–also in Libra, but in the very last degree–on April 19th, making it a Blue Moon. Blue Moons are Full Moons that happen either twice in the same zodiac sign or twice in the same calendar month. The name suggests rarity, as in the expression ‘Once in a blue moon,’ meaning every now and then. And, because they are rare, they catch the interest of astrologers as key moments to watch out for.

Venus rules the sign of Libra, and therefore also this Full Moon. The Venus energy of the month ahead will bring our relationships, values and even love–or their opposites–to our attention even more than usual. Venus is in the sign of Aquarius, where authenticity and being true to oneself are of utmost importance, alongside a universal, impersonal love.

Jupiter in Sagittarius represents higher thinking and justice, and as it is harmoniously combined with Venus right now, we need to find a higher truth and connect with the universal love that unites all of us.

The Sun and Chiron conjunct at the Aries Point (in the first degree of Aries, marking the Spring Equinox!) at this Full Moon suggests the potential for healing and overcoming our collective suffering through more outreach, vulnerability and tolerance in our relationships to others

Mars is in Venus-ruled Taurus, where it isn’t too comfortable because Mars is all about action and doesn’t want to waste time being polite about it, as Venus would prefer. So there can be a feeling of awkwardness or stubbornness around taking action, depending on who it might affect. Mars is in a harmonious trine to Pluto in Capricorn, which is about where we direct our will or desires; this can highlight issues of power/control/leadership as they might affect values or money.

All of this applies to us individually and collectively, which brings us to the subject of Karma. Hatred, killings, division and fear are all playing out in ever expanding ripples that touch all our lives. We must clear ourselves of any tendencies that might support this, checking our judgments and petty complaints about those around us which plant the first seeds of the larger problem. We cannot live in isolation believing we are immune to what is happening ‘out there’ – this inward-looking preoccupation is as hurtful to our global community as actively tearing it down.

The communication energy of Mercury combines nicely with Saturn’s emphasis on structures and the achievement of goals, which will have us realising what sacrifices we need to make – personally and collectively – to fulfil our goals and ambitions for the future we want. We might decide to make some big moves or changes which may need some adjusting in a couple of weeks, but don’t let that stop you from doing what you know is right.

We are less than two weeks away from disruptive and transformational Pluto’s exact conjunction to Rahu, the South Node of the Moon representing what is to be left behind, and very close to Saturn which represents authorities and social structures of all kinds. Expect continued and even heightened Machiavellian displays of power games, ruthlessness, and exploitation as the powers that be cling to their privileges and outdated frames of reference. This is the prelude to January 2020.

As the world erupts in era-defining battles for control, we need more than ever to align our intentions and actions with what can contribute to a fair and sustainable future for all beings on earth. Join us on Wednesday evening from 19:30-21:00 for the Full Moon Meditation, where we will practice Metta (Loving Kindness) Meditation for the benefit of all sentient beings.

Much love and healing light,
Susan
