Comings & goings above & below

Today’s Full Moon is also known as the Strawberry Moon, which sounds far more charming than many of us are likely to be feeling around this time. Saturn is conjunct this Moon in Capricorn, which is ruled by Saturn. The moon, representing our emotions and mind, is not comfortable in get-to-the-point Capricorn. This suggests we won’t want to feel difficult emotions and might feel shut down or cut off from others. People often become workaholics – or live their lives in perpetual motion – to avoid dealing with their emotions. The Sun is in touchy-feely, nurturing Cancer in opposition to the Capricorn moon (the opposition is what gives us the…

What have I done?! New Moon in Gemini

Gemini is very much about being in the present moment, and tuning in to navigate your way through change will help keep you afloat in these confusing times.  The next two weeks until the full moon have the energy of being true to ourselves, and expressing ourselves emotionally in our relationships – or perhaps just feeling emotional – can be the starting point on your journey to standing up for yourself. We can be aware of the discomfort and even pain that comes with change, and still know that change is good for us. At the very least we know it’s an inevitable part of life. How we talk to…

You say you want a revolution? Well, you know, We’d all love to change the world You tell me that it’s evolution Well, you know, We’d all love to change the world But when you talk about destruction Don’t you know that you can count me out Don’t you know it’s gonna be All right, all right, all right You say you got a real solution Well, you know, We’d all love to see the plan You ask me for a contribution Well, you know, We’re all doing what we can But if you want money for people with minds that hate Well all I can tell you is brother…

Ready, set, GO! A good time for an upgrade.

Feeling ready to move on in life? With a new lunar cycle just underway, and a new solar cycle about to begin at the Vernal Equinox on Tuesday afternoon, these are good days to make serious plans for what you want to create in the weeks and months ahead, and start taking action this week. In yoga, we use Sankalpa to plant the seeds of what we want to manifest in our lives. Ideally, this is done in a fully relaxed state such as during yoga nidra when the mind is in the liminal state between sleep and wakefulness, making it highly receptive to suggestion (essentially a hypnotic state). Unlike…

Virgo Full Moon brings a fuller perspective

Under the light of this Virgo Full Moon we could have important realisations about the current balance between the needs of our heart and those of our intellect – this is a good time to start your Spring cleaning, from the inside out! The Indian festival of colours known as Holi is celebrated at the first full moon of Spring, and playing with colours helps to shake off the dullness of winter. It is traditionally a time to clean up and clear out stagnant energy in preparation for the activities Spring (after throwing coloured powder around!), as well as being a celebration of the vibrant life and colours of the…

Eclipsing old networks, associations and goals?

Eclipses form a part of a larger cycle spanning about 19 years, so with today’s Partial Solar Eclipse (15/2) we can look back to February 1999. Significant themes in your outer and/or inner life will appear to be cycling around once again, since these current Eclipses are activating the exact same spots in your chart as 19 years ago (there was a Lunar Eclipse in Leo on January 31st 1999, and a Solar Eclipse in Aquarius February 16th 1999). Can you remember your life’s major events back then? What was changing for you? Were you disengaging from certain social groups in order to explore your independence in a whole new…

    Puppy love

As much as Valentine’s Day can be a really sweet time, I can’t help but cringe as it rolls around each year.  Is it the commercial overtones? The awkwardly out-of-character expressions of love? Are we all going through the motions to avoid seeming like we don’t care? My inner rebel has always been conflicted about Valentine’s Day because I don’t quite know how to handle it. It feels rather churlish to ignore people who launch a barrage of hearts and messages of love, and it feels unfriendly not to say it to others myself. The social pressure – not to mention the commercial pressure – is even harder to avoid…

Total Lunar Eclipse – Where were you last summer?

Today’s Full Moon is also a lunar eclipse, and because the moon is also at perigee (the closest it gets relative to the centre of the Earth) it’s a bit bigger than usual, which is why it’s also being called a super moon. Plus, being the second full moon in a calendar month (we started this year with a full moon), it is also traditionally known as a blue moon. Let’s see how this breaks down: Full Moon = strong astrological interest; Lunar Eclipse =  significant astrological interest; Super Moon = dubious astrological interest; Blue Moon = zero astrological interest. As much as some of you might roll your eyes…

Another Big Cycle of Endings and Beginnings

Following on from its conjunction with Monday’s inspiring new Moon in the last degrees of Sagittarius (December 18th), Saturn moves into a very potent alignment (known as cazimi, the closest possible conjunction) with our Sun in the early hours of Wednesday, December 20th when it enters its home sign of Capricorn, one day before the Sun marks the winter solstice with its own entry into Capricorn on the 21st. Both the Sun and Saturn will be at 0 degrees of Capricorn at the Solstice, which is extremely rare and auspicious as a point of new beginnings. What does any of that mean and why do I care? This is…

New moon, new impetus for change

Today the Moon meets the Sun in Libra beginning a new month-long cycle which will especially reveal issues in relationship – how you handle them and with whom. Uranus is directly opposite the Sun and Moon, meaning that outcomes can be very different to what was expected.  Either way, relationships will be changing a lot around this time – either within an existing relationship, or through endings or beginnings. Liberation and expanding consciousness is the key! If you like to use New Moon periods for intention-setting, reflect on your plans now and begin new things once the moon begins to reappear in the sky, over the weekend. Om cham chandraya…
