Transformational Retreat at Basunti in India

This is it!
The retreat you’ve been waiting for – a chance to discover India in relaxed and genteel comfort, practice yoga, take care of yourself and explore your own life at the same time.

The Himalayan Foothills and Sagar Lake

Join us at Basunti for an unforgettable and life-changing holiday. Basunti is an idyllic private lakeside retreat centre, set on a promontory in a nature reserve nestling in the foothills of the great Indian Himalayas.

Situated in the state of Himachal Pradesh in North India and surrounded by the waters of the Maharana Pratap Sagar, it sits at the heart of a wildlife reserve and has been developed in harmony with the local environment. As well as the chance to swim in the lake, there is also a first-class swimming pool and beautiful, landscaped gardens.

“So laidback, it’s almost horizontal” is how Harpers & Queen described the rural atmosphere at Basunti.

Our ten-day Align with Purpose Retreat includes daily morning yoga practice with a focus on self-awareness and stress reduction, along with breathwork and meditation, plus relaxing evening sessions to prepare for a restful night of sleep.

Each day we’ll meet to develop and explore the twelve life themes set out in Susan’s transformational course Align with Purpose. These seminars will inspire you to examine what’s working in your life and what’s not, and include clear instruction on Yogic, Buddhist, Ayurvedic and other life-affirming teachings that contribute to your personal transformation.

“You have been very generous with the course. You have lavishly given away the knowledge and wisdom of (half) a lifetime.” ~ Patrizia

Aligning with Purpose will have you:

  • examining yourself from another angle
  • defining your essence, and sense of higher purpose
  • defining where you are heading in life
  • getting in touch with layers of emotions, memories, compulsive thoughts
  • observing your thoughts and reactions through the day
  • getting in touch with your body, its messages and its needs
  • learning about Yogic, Buddhist and Ayurvedic approaches to transformation
  • encountering and learning from stimulating, like-minded people
“At the moment I feel more energy and courage to do my thing. I created a training for young people who soon will leave school to support them to find their uniquenes, talents and strength and use these talents in the job they will find. For years I had ideas but didn’t take real action. But now I am on fire for it. Your course ‘align with purpose’ helped me so much to find my essence, vision and what I want to do. Thanx soo much. Much love and joy, Petra

Individual and group support will carry the work of exploring where you want to make changes in your life, with specific exercises and guidance for doing just that.

You will also benefit from an insightful and inspiring one-hour astrology consultation with Susan as a part of this course (a €120 value), which you can arrange as of September 1st either before, during or after the retreat, either in person or via Zoom depending where you live.

A 75-minute individual follow-up session (a €75 value) is also included to help sustain your transformation, to be scheduled after the retreat up to February 28th, either in person or via Zoom.

By the end of this retreat, you will:

  • be clear on your personal essence and higher purpose in life
  • you will understand what areas of life need more attention and action, and what needs more compassion and healing
  • overcome self-limiting beliefs, and be challenged and delighted by new experiences
  • feel inspired to make long-lasting changes to your daily habits that will benefit you for life

For some of you this will be a first step on your journey towards true self-expression, and for others, it might be one of many more that are already underway.  For others still, this can be a step back into a process that was begun years ago but was interrupted by personal events, like having children or a demanding job.

Midway through the retreat, we will take a day trip to Dharamsala/McLeod Ganj, the home of the Dalai Lama, as well as a major centre of the Tibetan community in India, and the seat of the Tibetan Government in Exile (This trip will require a 3-hour drive each way, and is entirely optional. If you think it would be too much for you and you would prefer to spend a day resting at Basunti, please let me know and I will discount the excursion price.)

You can extend your trip on either end with a visit to Amritsar and the magnificent Golden Temple, or Dharamsala/McLeod Ganj. Both are about 3 hours’ drive from Basunti.

Susan Hopkinson and Elisabeth Grigoriantz-Rivasseau will guide you on this adventure.

After discovering yoga in Toronto in 1985 and practicing with outstanding teachers like David Swensen, Esther Myers, and Mary Stewart as well as many lesser-known but excellent teachers around the world, Susan began teaching in 1998 following her first yoga teacher training with the late Derek Ireland in Goa, India, in 1997. She qualified as a yoga therapist with the Yoga Biomedical Trust in London (now organised through Yoga Campus) and with Mukunda Stiles, both in 2007. Susan has also studied Ayurveda and Yoga Therapy with David Frawley, A.G. Mohan and Vasant Lad. Susan empowers her students to take a holistic approach to self-realisation, and her work involves individualised yoga or mindfulness-based therapy (in the spirit and tradition of her longtime teacher, Thich Nhat Hanh), distilling Yogic, Tantric, Buddhist and Ayurvedic philosophy into her teaching and counselling. She also offers natal chart interpretation and astrology-based counselling as a professional astrologer.

Elisabeth discovered yoga in 1995. She became a yoga teacher and certified therapist with IAYT (International Association of Yoga Therapists) and IYT (Integrative Yoga Therapy). Her wish is to help you integrate yoga into your daily life in order to discover all the benefits. Trained in Washington, DC, and Paris, she specializes in the management of stress, anxiety and trauma by offering self-regulation techniques incorporated in the practice of yoga. Elisabeth is French and offers bilingual courses FR / AN and also speaks Spanish.
